Volunteer Coordinator


Volunteer Coordinator Description and Responsibilities:

The Volunteer Coordinator’s primary responsibility is to work with the Executive Director during weekend volunteer hours to assist in organizing, training and managing volunteers. This is an unpaid position, averaging 8 hours per week. The Volunteer Coordinator will be a crucial part of the ongoing maintenance and productivity of SLP, working closely with the ED to inform and excite visitors about SLP’s mission.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Learn SLP farm procedures, farming techniques and organizational culture
  • Assist ED with greeting volunteers and managing sign-in process
  • Develop weekend to-do plan with ED to manage groups of volunteers and tasks
  • Identify volunteer interests and skills to best match them with farm tasks
  • Work alongside volunteers to ensure proper technique and safety
  • Enter volunteer time, activity, and results data into spreadsheets
  • Assist with organizing and participate in volunteer recognition programs and special events
  • Identify community outreach opportunities such as fairs, festivals, local markets and organizations




  • Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing
  • Effective volunteer-group leadership and management
  • Ability to learn and take direction
  • Ability to keep accurate records and effectively plan and organize volunteer activities
  • Ability to work independently and productively in an unstructured environment
  • Ability to work outdoors and perform physical labor
  • Ability to effectively handle stress and have fun.


Time Commitments

  • An average of 8 hours per week
  • Willing to work weekends
